They agree
County Republicans and two Democratic clubs in Baltimore County have one thing in common - opposition to the referendum that would authorize video slot machines in Maryland.
Members the the Central Baltimore County Democratic Club and the Young Democrats of Baltimore County held a debate on slots in Towson on Oct. 14. Afterward, they voted 57 percent to 34 percent to oppose the expansion of gambling in Maryland.
“As the county’s largest and most active Democratic club, we will continue to encourage Baltimore County voters to understand the consequences of slots and get out and vote on Nov. 4,” said Central Baltimore County Democratic Club vice president Scott Sokol in a news release sent out by Marylanders United to Stop Slots.
Sokol was not immediately available for comment.
The announcement by the two Democratic clubs comes less than a week after the Baltimore County Republican Central Committee announced its opposition.
Chris Cavey, chairman of the county Republican central committee expressed disbelief upon learning of the Democrats’ vote from a reporter.
“God bless ‘em,” said Chris Cavey, chairman of the county Republican central committee. “I’d like to come down and give them some McCain signs. Maybe we’ll be agreeing with each other on more things.”
“I’d be happy to reach across the aisle and work on other issues with my friends in the Democratic Party. Maybe we can give Baltimore County and Maryland back to the people,” he added.
