New colors for county Web site
County Executive Jim Smith’s has Ravens fever in a bad way.
Bathing the Old Courthouse in a purple haze two weeks ago was just the start. Now, the county Web site has gone purple as a show of support for the Ravens, who play the Pittsburgh Steelers in next Sunday’s AFC championship game.
“We have a wonderful website, and in a normal week having our website adorned in black and gold is perfectly acceptable,” Smith said in a Jan. 12 release. “However, this is not a normal week. All of us are pitching in to do our part to support the Ravens on their way to Tampa, and it just didn’t seem right to have the colors of the Pittsburgh Steelers featured prominently on the front of the county’s homepage.”
This was Smith’s second release of the day pertaining to the Ravens. In the first, Smith urged county employees to wear more purple every day this week to support the team, which has its training facility in Owings Mills.
Until this morning, the county Web site colors were predominantly red with black and yellow flourishes — the colors of the county flag and seal.
The county replaced the red color on the Web site with Ravens purple, leaving the black and yellow — which are the team colors of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Don Mohler, a spokesman for Smith, wrote in an e-mail that the county “couldn’t get it all off - that’s why the release uses the word “prominently”- the “predominant” color is now purple - showing the home team some love.”
“I think the IT folks did a really good job - you are definitely struck by purple when you go to the homepage,” he wrote.
