CCBC-mobileThe Community College of Baltimore County has a new, eye-catching vehicle to publicize the college.

The car in the photo to the left was parked on Chesapeake Avenue across from the Old Courthouse on Monday night (click to enlarge). College officials were in Towson attending a reception with council members. (You can see some alternate shots here and here.)

The meet-and-greet is an annual tradition this time of year. Community college officials meet with the council prior to the county budget hearings to brief the councilman on the goings-on at the college.

“I’m glad you mentioned it,” said Sandra Kurtinitis, president of the community college system. “We’re really proud of it.”

The college spent “a couple hundred dollars” each to turn the cars Kurtinitisinto rolling billboards. Each of the three campuses has two cars and two vans similarly adorned, Kurtinitis said.

“We talked a lot about advertisement,” Kurtinitis explained between bites of shrimp, adding that similar types of bus advertisements are “very expensive.”

The cars are not painted. The white Chevrolets are wrapped in a blue vinyl covering. There’s even a larger one that covers the inside of the back window. It blocks the view from the outside in but allows the driver to see out.

The covers are new to the college but have been used elsewhere. Mass Transit Administration buses have sported similar coverings — one bus that frequents Towson is wrapped in an advertisement for Hooters Restaurants.

“We’re working hard to be frugal this year,” Kurtinitis said. “We’re spending our money to get the biggest effect.”
