Flip-flopping: evening work sessions possible?
Councilman Joseph Bartenfelder today restated his support of moving work sessions to a time later in the afternoon — or possibly in the evening.
The issue came up earlier this summer when some community activists said they’d like to see the change in order to make it easier for the public to attend.
Bartenfelder, who is chairman of the council for another four months, said that while he has not had formal conversations with the other six councilmen, he has had some preliminary discussions with folks in the county executive’s office.
“I don’t have a problem with working on a Tuesday and rearranging things if it makes it easier for the public to get there,” Bartenfelder said.
Bartenfelder said he likes the idea of “flip-flopping” the meetings — holding the legislative sessions during the day and the work sessions, where most of the important discussion is held, at night.
“I think we could swap them,” Bartenfelder said. “I don’t know how it would add to the cost.”
In the end, Bartenfelder said he thinks it’s all about “scheduling and management; making sure it doesn’t cost you more.”
“Maybe we can try it sometime and see how it works,” Bartenfelder said.
Might be a good way to try those flexible work schedules Councilman Kevin Kamenetz likes, too.
