Smith’s out, but questions remain

SmithCounty Executive Jim Smith’s recent announcement raised questions pertaining to his future and what might happen to the more than $1 million he has raised since being re-elected in 2006.

Smith’s statement (you can read it here) is all we have to go on officially. The county executive declined to be interviewed on the subject before leaving town to visit a daughter (who was expecting to give birth this week).

But sources within the Smith campaign were willing to shed some light on the subject. (more…)

He’s got an opinion

Olszewski, Sr.The County Council will vote tonight on a bill sponsored by Councilman John Olszewski Sr. that would create a so-called do not distribute list for advertisements and fliers that are left on the doors of county homes.

Several councilmen expressed concerns that the bill runs afoul of free speech rights in the Constitution.

Not so, Olszewski said last week and said he had an opinion from the state Attorney General bolstering to back him up. (more…)

I’ve received some questions about Councilman Vince Gardina’s off-the-cuff comment to a community activist about getting shot in Perry Hall.

Was the councilman speaking in jest? Was it sarcasm? Was he being serious? What was the context of the remark?
