Ehrlich for County Council?
Joseph “Prince of Darkness” Steffen has added his voice to the chatter related to the recent driving under the influence arrest of County Councilman Sam Moxley.
Steffen, a former staffer for Gov. Robert Ehrlich, reports in his blog Darkness Rising that there is “a movement afoot to draft Bob Ehrlich to run against Moxley.”
No, not the former governor. The former governor’s father, Robert Ehrlich Sr.
“That development, if it comes to fruition, has some real possibilities for the GOP,” Steffen writes.
Steffen seems to be about the only person so far who puts any credence into the idea.
“Senior,” as he is known in Republican circles, has been a non-entity for the most part at Patapsco Valley Republican Club meetings, some members have told me.
The whole idea of an Ehrlich Sr. run appears to have started on the east side of the county at a Northeast Republican Club meeting, where someone tossed out his name and a “wouldn’t it be cool if he ran?”
“The idea was bandied about for about a minute,” said Chris Cavey, chairman of the county Republican Central Committee.
Cavey said he puts “zero credibility” into the idea that Senior will run against Moxley.
“You’ve got to give it to (Steffen),” Cavey said. “If nothing else, he’s entertaining.”
So far, only one Republican from the 1st District has stepped forward as a possible candidate.
Steve Whisler, president of the Westview Park Improvement Association and the Coalition for the Preservation of Southwest Baltimore County, said two weeks ago he is being encouraged to run and is informally considering it.
