Pop quiz answers
Everyone ready for the answers to the pop quiz on the County Council and county government that I posted on Tuesday?
If you haven’t had the opportunity to take it you can find it here. Remember, you’re on the honor system — no internet and no lifelines. Hey, I’m not Regis Philbin here.
Here are the answers to all 60 questions. Look for the special bragging rights questions I left in the answers. Feel free to leave the answers in the comments section — if you think you know them.
Another thanks to Debbie Patchak, the long-time council administrator, for sharing her little quiz with me and the blog. About 125 of your at least took a look at the quiz and quite a few people emailed me or left messages about the quiz on my Facebook page. I had fun and I hope you did, too. Thanks, Debbie.
Now, for the competitive part.
Councilman Kevin Kamenetz has the highest score I know of so far. He answered 59 of 60 correctly as judged by council staff. He answered “council chairman” on question 35 and that was judged to be incorrect.
I answered 57 of 60 correct. I had the same answer on 35 as Kamenetz. I had a brain cramp on 36 and left it blank. I also missed question 52, answering 21-years-old. Two other council staffers tied with me for what I was told was second-place at the time.
For the record, Kamenetz and I are playing 35 under protest. Technically the chairman is the only one required to sign a bill once the council passes it since the county executive can allow a bill to become law without his signature. We both argued that council secretary’s signature is not required if the executive vetoes the bill. We were told we were stretching and that the question referred to bills that become enrolled.
Don Mohler, County Executive Jim Smith’s spokesman, missed seven but wants what he referred to as a “grade school do-over” on question 45 since he clearly knew Smith was a county employee (council) before becoming a judge.
Mohler said he was jumping around on the test and inadvertently left the question blank.
“I had a Sylvan Learning moment,” Mohler joked with me on Friday. “It just shows that the nuns in first grade were right and I need to focus more.”
Patchak on Friday laughed about Mohler’s request and quickly denied it. The decision of Judge Patchak is final.
Did you take the quiz? How did you do? What stumped you? Did you learn something? Are you playing a question under protest? Leave a comment. Also, let me know if you can name all the county council chairman since 1995. Council members and staff are not permitted to play this one.
