County Executive race? Piece of cake

(click to enlarge)County Councilman Kevin Kamenetz hasn’t formally declared his intent to run for county executive in 2010, but some of his constituents declared their wishes in cake Monday night.

Kamenetz showed off the cake and offered pieces to some council staff (and then to me) after last night’s council meeting.

The box was placed up on a refrigerator. (Perhaps out of sight of other potential “next Baltimore County Executives?”)

On his way out, he playfully offered some to Councilman Ken Oliver.

“Are you sure you want a slice?” Kamenetz asked, opening the lid so Oliver could read the cake.

“Yeah. I believe that,” Oliver said.

Kamenetz, a Democrat with four terms on the council, is expected to run for county executive. He has raised $1.1 million for whatever campaign he wages, according to a report filed last month with the State Board of Elections, and has a Web site that implies a countywide run.

Still, Kamenetz has been coy when if comes to declaring his intentions.

Some might say he wants to have his cake while he eats it, too.
